Grimsby in Bloom, in partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council, is leading the Victoria Street Project – a community-driven initiative to bring vibrant plant life to Grimsby’s main shopping street.

This project aims to introduce a variety of new planters filled with colourful flowers, shrubs, and greenery, creating a more welcoming and visually appealing environment for shoppers and visitors.

By adding these planters, the project will enhance the town centre’s aesthetic appeal, promote biodiversity, and contribute to a healthier, more inviting public space. Greenery in urban areas has been shown to improve well-being, reduce stress, and foster a sense of community pride.

The Victoria Street Project is a step towards transforming Grimsby’s town centre into a greener, more attractive space for everyone to enjoy.

Lamppost Baskets

The lamppost baskets along Victoria Street are a vibrant and eye-catching feature that bring colour and life to the heart of the town. These baskets are carefully planted with seasonal bedding plants, chosen for their rich and vibrant colours that create an ever-changing display throughout the year. The use of seasonal planting ensures that the baskets stay fresh and interesting, offering a new burst of beauty with each passing season.

Bedding plants are selected not only for their dazzling appearance but also for their ability to thrive in these compact displays. Their bright colours and varied textures make the baskets a welcoming sight for visitors and locals alike.

In addition to their aesthetic appeal, the flowers play an important role in supporting local wildlife. The blooms attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, helping to promote biodiversity and support healthy ecosystems in the town centre.

Together, the lamppost baskets on Victoria Street provide a wonderful blend of beauty, sustainability, and environmental benefit all year round.

Crow’s Nests

The distinctive Crow’s Nest planters on Victoria Street are a nod to the town’s rich fishing heritage, echoing the look and spirit of traditional crow’s nests found on fishing vessels. These specialist planters have been carefully designed not only for their visual impact but also for their environmental sustainability.

Planted with a selection of hardy evergreen species, the displays are well-suited to withstand the ever-changing coastal weather conditions. Rain or shine, wind or frost, these resilient plants continue to thrive – offering a vibrant and uplifting show for visitors all year round. Their presence brings a splash of green to the heart of the town, blending heritage, sustainability, and natural beauty in one eye-catching feature.

Green Bowl Planters

The distinctive green bowl planters along Victoria Street are a vibrant and eye-catching feature, designed to bring natural beauty into the heart of the town. Positioned at ground level, these planters are carefully planted to create a dramatic display when viewed from all angles, drawing attention from passers-by and enhancing the streetscape.

Each bowl features a small native tree at its centre, surrounded by a mix of perennial plants chosen for their varied textures and year-round colour. This thoughtful planting not only offers continuous seasonal interest but also supports local wildlife. To add an extra burst of colour and vibrancy, seasonal bedding plants are added throughout the year, keeping the planters fresh, lively, and ever-changing.

Living Wall

Located on the side wall of the Co-op Travel agent on Victoria Street, this beautiful living wall has been thoughtfully planted with a variety of alpines and sedums. These hardy, low-maintenance plants have been chosen for their sustainability and ability to thrive in challenging environments. Planted into a specially prepared gritty soil, they are well-suited to the vertical container system, encouraging strong root growth and long-term success.

Alpines and sedums are not only resilient but also boast a long flowering season, ensuring extended periods of vibrant colour and visual interest throughout the year. Their ability to grow and spread naturally within the container means the display will continue to flourish and evolve over time, bringing a touch of nature to the heart of the town centre.

This living wall is a celebration of eco-conscious urban greening -attractive, practical, and kind to the environment.

Street Planters & Benches

New street planters and benches have been installed along Victoria Street, bringing a fresh burst of life and colour to the area.

The planters have been thoughtfully designed with a mix of shrubs to provide height and structure, alongside a variety of perennials chosen to attract pollinators and add long-lasting colour throughout the seasons.

To create an instant visual impact, vibrant bedding plants have also been included.

Seasonal bulbs will be added throughout the year to ensure year-round interest.

These planters have been created with sustainability in mind, aiming to support local biodiversity while enhancing the urban environment for residents and visitors alike.

We’re excited to see the next steps in the greening up of Victoria Street and how this ongoing project will continue to transform the area.

With each new addition, the street is becoming a more vibrant, welcoming, and environmentally friendly space for everyone to enjoy.
