Welcome to the beautiful new Community Gardens at Grimsby in Bloom – a vibrant and nurturing space designed to bring people and nature together.
Grimsby in Bloom is transforming a disused bowling green in the Duke of York Gardens into a thriving community garden. Leased from North East Lincolnshire Council for a nominal £1 per year, the project is turning this once-neglected space into a haven for wildlife, education, and community connection. Despite setbacks from vandalism, the initiative continues to grow, thanks to the dedication of volunteers and generous funding support, including £20,000 from the National Lottery.
At the heart of the space is the stunning Friendship Garden, with a large planted bed filled with vibrant blooms in a variety of colours. These plants have been carefully selected to attract a diverse range of pollinators, supporting local biodiversity while providing beautiful, year-round colour. Comfortable seating is thoughtfully placed throughout the garden, offering peaceful spots to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
A dedicated Nature Zone features a pond, bird feeding stations, and a bug hotel – all designed to encourage wildlife and promote biodiversity. This area will also host educational workshops, helping people of all ages learn about nature, sustainability, and caring for the environment.
Additionally, we are growing our own fruit and vegetables right here in the garden. This fresh, homegrown produce supports our on-site café, is available for donations to help sustain our work, and is also donated to the local food bank to support those in need.
The Grimsby in Bloom Community Gardens are a place for everyone – a space to connect, learn, and grow together.
